4th edition I have played a few times now and its an odd cat. Really if another publisher put it out with a different title and changed some of the names, I don't think it would be confused at all with 'D&D'. It plays more like a supers game now, and combat tends to be more involved and tactical. I'm reserving further judgment until I get a full adventure in at least, and learn the rules properly.
I like the changes to D&D. As far as I am concerned it has been a supers game since 3rd edition. I suppose you could make an argument for 2nd ed. being that way at higher levels. What I beleive they have done with this most recent edition is take D&D into the action movie age. Combat is very cinematic. It is also very tactical. Many of the players abilities in combat are based on positioning or moving the enemy into a more advantageous position. I can't imagine playing this game without minis. Combat is no longer about running to meet the enemy and swinging your sword, and then swinging your sword, and then swinging your sword, and then swinging your sword... I enjoy the fact that the characters can heal themselves, to a degree. Having a cleric in the party is a major plus but is no longer an absolute necessity. This healing ability also eliminates the 15 miniute dungeon crawl. The skill system is a major improvement. They went with simple is better and I am glad they did. Having a few skills cover a large range makes them more important to all classes and more applicable during game play. The skill challenge system looks good, but we have not used it yet. Hopefully next session. These are my preliminary opinions, like Sam I have not really played it that much so I can't give a more informed opinion. When the group has gone through a few levels I will have a better idea if this edition of D&D did a better job of moving away from the dreaded 'sweet spot' of previous iterations.
I should have a short, simple Gazetteer of the City State environs up soon, along with a "procedures" thread for folks who've never gamed with me before, and gradually more information by Sunday. I'm keeping things intentionally sparse to begin with ... players aren't expected to memorize lots of setting info prior to play.
I'd prefer it if initial characters were not native to the City State itself, so everyone is on the same page in terms of information and discovery.
Once you've introduced yourself briefly in the intro thread, I'll start rolling ability scores. No intro, no scores.
See y'all over there!

I was being a dick, but I should have the forum ready for perusal and use within hours.

I'm in too.
This is the longest PbP game I ever participated in!
Usually people disappear after the 1st encounter...

I'll probably just leave things frozen as opposed to doing a Butch-and-Sundance ending for the current PCs.
I can have the new game up and running by Sunday, honestly. I have the rest of the week free, and am busily wearing an ass-groove in the couch.
Let me know for sure if you're in and I will roll up your character. Some background information will be up by this weekend, with sketchy guidelines on what kind of people there are in the area, etc., if you want to make use of that sort of thing to determine character details. For instance, there's a pirate faction you could make use of. I will also distribute an updated rules document.

When its up and more or less ready.
I'd recommend a out-with-a-bang sort of battle here on the way out. We head back to town, where the the unspeakable Dearth Monster is placing its new clutch to feed, that sort of thing. Town+us vs black dragon, good stuff. Just my two cents.

Here's the thread from the OD&D Discussion forum, my "home" old-school forum:

I've got two folks I'm talking to in PM, and they both seem fine.
When do we want to migrate? I have the new forum set up. If we get new players, even though we all now each other (some of us for 14 years now?), I'd like to do a brief intro thread so they don't feel too much like the n00bs in an established group.
