Some time in the future, I may be running a Wilderlands PBP. If there's a consensus among this group, I will be happy to Gate the current characters over (although we'd probably want to stay out of the Wilderlands version of the Tegel area to avoid unmanageable paradox). If not, I will probably hit up a couple of the OD&D boards for players. Any of you are always absolutely welcome to roll up another character for Wilderlands play, but I understand that people are either working, attending law school, or both, and may not have time to post to two games. The campaign will use a ruleset almost identical to the current one -- 1974 OD&D plus a few things from Supplement I (Greyhawk) and The Strategic Review. The initial setting will be somewhere in the lands of the City State of the Invincible Overlord, the second largest settlement in the Wilderlands (the City State of the World Emperor being the largest). If you're not familiar with the Wilderlands, it was pretty innovative for its time. Judges Guild put out the first D&D city (Invincible Overlord) and the first significant wilderness supplement (the Wilderlands of High Fantasy booklet and maps). Eventually, the entire 18-map Wilderlands region was mapped out hex-by-hex, with (very) skeletal details for every settlement, lair, ruin, and so on. Basically, the Platonic ideal of what everyone calls "sandbox gaming" now -- the Ref doesn't shoehorn people into a storyline, he just turns them loose and has enough details at his fingertips to spark ideas and keep up with them. The Wilderlands don't really simulate any particular genre. There are swords-and-sorcery elements, 9-level dungeons, sprawling cities, jungles, themed areas, and so on. It's basically a spitwad of everything people thought was cool in the late 70s and early 80s, from Vance to Howard to Tolkien to Moorcock, with stuff from Earth mythology stuffed in. Messy but awesome. Because details were so sparse, and the area covered so large, everyone's Wilderlands campaign is different. One interpretation is the d20 version of Wilderlands, which I think is really good, and none of which I'll be using as I'd rather just make up the details myself. Let me know if you have any interest in either taking the current characters over or generating a second character to play with a new group. If we Gate over, it will probably be relatively soon. If I start a second PBP, I'm not sure when that will be.
I should have a short, simple Gazetteer of the City State environs up soon, along with a "procedures" thread for folks who've never gamed with me before, and gradually more information by Sunday. I'm keeping things intentionally sparse to begin with ... players aren't expected to memorize lots of setting info prior to play.
I'd prefer it if initial characters were not native to the City State itself, so everyone is on the same page in terms of information and discovery.
Once you've introduced yourself briefly in the intro thread, I'll start rolling ability scores. No intro, no scores.
See y'all over there!

I was being a dick, but I should have the forum ready for perusal and use within hours.

I'm in too.
This is the longest PbP game I ever participated in!
Usually people disappear after the 1st encounter...

I'll probably just leave things frozen as opposed to doing a Butch-and-Sundance ending for the current PCs.
I can have the new game up and running by Sunday, honestly. I have the rest of the week free, and am busily wearing an ass-groove in the couch.
Let me know for sure if you're in and I will roll up your character. Some background information will be up by this weekend, with sketchy guidelines on what kind of people there are in the area, etc., if you want to make use of that sort of thing to determine character details. For instance, there's a pirate faction you could make use of. I will also distribute an updated rules document.

When its up and more or less ready.
I'd recommend a out-with-a-bang sort of battle here on the way out. We head back to town, where the the unspeakable Dearth Monster is placing its new clutch to feed, that sort of thing. Town+us vs black dragon, good stuff. Just my two cents.

Here's the thread from the OD&D Discussion forum, my "home" old-school forum:

I've got two folks I'm talking to in PM, and they both seem fine.
When do we want to migrate? I have the new forum set up. If we get new players, even though we all now each other (some of us for 14 years now?), I'd like to do a brief intro thread so they don't feel too much like the n00bs in an established group.
