Lars is going to sneak in as carefully as he can manage, and circle the building at a distance of a few paces, looking for any external features.

Once everyone is near, Bhartec will walk up to the building in a straight forward manner. He will touch the stone, inspecting for more runes and looking for the entrance on/near the stone structure.

You enter the eerie alien trees surrounding the black building; circling, you see no runes or other carvings, only a glossy black, possibly igneous stone surface.

On the western side is an archway leading into darkness. As you approach to investigate further, they are upon you from the trees!

Six men are in your midst, stabbing with spears, smashing with their stinking, bloodstained shields. Barefoot, they wear ragged armor, stitched of boiled leather of dubious origin, though untanned scraps here and there suggest serpents, gnolls, or men ... they reek of blood and sweat, and a hodge-podge of trinkets, fetishes, and grisly trophies hang from their kit. Some wear beaten metal skullcaps, others gory sack-like masks of skin. All are hollow-eyed and berserk as they fall upon you, howling and gibbering, sending you staggering together for protection, only Ymmas remaining outside their current purview ...

[You have been surprised by a group of six men. During the surprise round, Sinlocah was hit for 4 points of damage. The men won Initiative for the first regular round and scored no hits. Y'all are up.]

Ymmas lets fly at whichever primitive is least obstructed by his companions, preferably the one that attacked Sinlocah.

"RECKOOONNNIIINNNNNG!" Lars let's fly his new battle-cry in honor of Valcidies, and lays to with his flail. "Stupid forest-men come into battle with crappy armor! Lars will kill them now!"

[Scott: If we get down to one or two of them and they're weakened, Lars is going to take a shot at taking one alive, if that's even feasible.]

Bhartec will attempt to get the attention of one or two by making whooping monkey noises, and throwing dirt in their face. He will then flee, hopefully out pacing him with his light load. He will run in large circles around the melee until someone can aid him.

Bleeding through a rent in his mail, Sinlocah voices a battle cry and smashes one of the savages square in the center of his skin-mask, blasting teeth and blood out of the ragged mouth-hole ... the man falls to the ground, and Sinlocah similarly tenderizes the back of his head. Looking up, the handsome cleric sees his death in the form of the other savage, poised to thrust with his spear, only to see him felled by a crossbow bolt in the crotch -- he flops unceremoniously onto the ground, writhing and oozing spittle from his rapidly purpling lips. In the background, he sees Lars messily dispatching one of the pair of savages who assail him; Bhartec runs around like an idiot with a spearman chasing him.

Kexy pulls her bow, preparing to draw a bead, but sees a savage charging her from the edge of her vision. She barely has time to fire a shot wide before the man is upon her.

[Sinlocah, Ymmas, and Lars each slew an opponent. Y'all have Initiative for Round 2.]

Satisfied with the first result, Ymmas puts the crossbow's ring around his boot and quickly cranks the windlass until the bowstring locks onto the nut.

He snaps the bolt into place, and raises the crossbow to his shoulder. "Die, pestilent beasts!" Ah. Kexy. As Ymmas turns in Kexy's direction, the crossbow's iron sights fill with the shoulders and lower back of the savage attacking her.

The crossbow's nut sings as the bolt clears the lath.
