"A hand Lars if you may.." he reaches for Lars to stabilize himself. "We really do need more orphans..." Bhartec will open the smaller boxes/bags before moving on to the other chest. He will be pointing the boxes away from himself as he does so- accidentally in the direction of our two zealous priest-warriors.

Lars will pick him up by the back of the robe and help him move. He'll also retrieve his javelins, and maybe open the chest up from greater than arms reach.

I think it's an excuse for you to keep us from actually getting the treasure.

You're all like: "Shit, I let them make it past first level AND get money? Fuck this, REBOOT!"

[I have a certain not-entirely-unearned reputation for stinginess that I have *not* been intentionally trying to reinforce in this campaign. We've actually been playing through a published adventure and I haven't altered the treasure values at all. I've been sitting here going "shit, when are they going to get to some loot?"]
