Bhartec will be searching the area for a 'squat dark building of black stone' in broad daylight. Perferably as a group fairly close together. If it is not here then he will suggest the surrounding area. Either way he will make haste to get as much as possible out of the daylight.

'East' near that tower, or on the hill on the west map?] |

[We're in the ruins to the south of the village in hex 2618-ish, right?] |

[If I remember correctly, the stairs were on a block of stone that was probably once a foundation and measured 10 feet high. What can we see from the top of this structure? Can we see anything that would give us a better vantage point? Even a really tall tree, maybe?]

[The trees marked on the map are allor-trees, spongy-barked growths rumored to be of extraterrestrial, possibly lunar origin. Thankfully rare, they are the bane of architects for their alien vitality and kudzu-like destructive capacity, and can germinate and grow in the absence of light, e.g., under flagstones. Fortunately, though individual allor-trees grow in a nearly unstoppable riot, they do not seem to reproduce quickly in our world's atmosphere.
Nick remembers correctly regarding the situation of the foundation with the stairs -- it looks to you like this was once the foundation of a greater building, and that the stairs led down from the ground floor of this building.
From atop the 10' foundation, you have an excellent vantage on the surrounding terrain. You can see Derfingel Marsh to the south, the Temple of Nivatopredi and the Scudwood to the north, the Monastery of the Holy Brotherhood to the southwest on Savant Scarpe, and the fields and villages of Tegel to the northeast, with the Boiling Brook winding through.
Nearer, you see the charred sod where you burned the gnoll carcasses, though you do not see even bones as remnants.
As you explore the surface of the foundation, Ymmas notes something in a small cluster of allor-trees just to the southwest -- the corner of a squat dark building ...] _________________ The penalty for success is to be bored by the people who used to snub you. |

"Boys and girls, take a look at that. Off there, to the south.
"Now what do we suppose this is?"

Lars squints at it. "That's a wall. Blackish wall. Could be more wall behind the trees." He pauses and cocks his head. "Weren't we looking for a black building? Ha! That might be it. Maybe that's it." He trundles off in an armored jog to see. |

Ymmas appreciates Lars' enthusiasm, and unslings his crossbow as he begins walking east to offer Lars at least one bolt's worth of cover if there's Something Bad in this building. |

Bhartec will head that direction, prodding one of the more armored members to stay in front of him. He is keeping an eye out for various tracks leading to and from the structure.
The entrance is supposedly hidden, if so he will investigate to find the secret door. |

Kexy looks around for tracks as well, keeping an eye and ear out for anything unusual until they reach the dark structure. |

Sinlocah will find his way to Lars side, making sure his slightly disadvantaged friend doesn't miss too much in his explorations. |

A building, a low black square structure perhaps 20' to a side, lies nestled in a small cluster of allor-trees. You see no entrance from here, but some evidence of foot traffic -- divots and drag-marks in the sod, though not so much as to create a path or indicate any steady pattern. Someone's clearly been about, but what they were up to is beyond you.
From your viewing point beyond the trees, you do not see an entrance. _________________ The penalty for success is to be bored by the people who used to snub you. |
