[2 sets of stairs. #1 we found on the foundation stone. #2 was the secret set revealed by the tablet to be in the black house.
Let's go back to #1. But watch out for falling savages hiding in trees.] |

[Let me know marching order and light sources.]
This stone staircase is at least a dozen feet wide, its steps crumbling in places, and stretches twenty, twenty-five yards into the cold air of the Underworld. A faint whiff of guano and ammonia emanates from below ... _________________ The penalty for success is to be bored by the people who used to snub you. |

[Can we adopt a standard marching order of Lars and myself in the front, Bhartec and Kexy ten paces behind, and Sinlocah ten paces behind them?] |

[You certainly can, if everyone's fine with it.] _________________ The penalty for success is to be bored by the people who used to snub you. |

Let the boy go up front with a torch, he's been whining about it all day. Besides, he's small will be harder to kill with crossbow, firetraps, and giant venomous snakes.
*The boy gulps and goes to the front of the party with a light torch* |

Kexy takes her place in the center of the party, her bow readied to shoot between her companions. |

The torchboy, somewhat glassy-eyed, nods at Bhartec's command.
"Yes, Master Bhartec," he says, walking down the stairs, his torch held out and above his head.
The stairs end, entering the south side of a large, square chamber. A simple archway is positioned in the center of each of the east and west walls; there is an ornate, carved archway leading from the center of the north wall. The walls were painted once in bright colors with scenes of ceremony and worship being performed by men in strange garb, but are now faded, worn, chipped, and discolored.
It is instantly apparent that the vaulted ceiling is home to several hundred bats, who stir irritably at the torchlight -- a few wing wildly around the room. The air is heavy and stinks of bat shite, and the torch flares brighter in the fumes. You look down with disgust to find the floor is slick with slick, chalky guano. _________________ The penalty for success is to be bored by the people who used to snub you. |

Lars is going to creep from door to door, sniffing the air through each one. |

Kexy will target Lars with her bow as he moves...just in case something big and bat-like hears him skulking around. |

Bhartec will follow behind Lars, directing the boy to where he would be most useful in shining his torch. |

Sinlocah guards the rear, waiting to hears screams of pain and torment before heading forward to his almost certain doom. |

[The small black building would be to the southwest. Nothing smells like anything but batshit.]
As the light of the torch's radius falls beyond the northern archway, you hear a great buffeting of wings ... literally thousands of bats seeth forth from the north, batting and thumping against your faces, some becoming entangled in your hair and gear, squirming and flapping blindly. Vision beyond a few feet, even by torchlight, is impossible in the filthy, furry tempest, and you hear little beyond muffled yells over the bats' whirs and shrieks. _________________ The penalty for success is to be bored by the people who used to snub you. |
