Lars looks quizzically at the foeman's hand. "Too many fingers. Makes Lars' head hurt. Gotta fix it." He hefts one axe with what can only be described as a slightly pensive expression. "Somebody hold his hand still." |

Kexy shoots Lars an icy look of disapproval.
She then turns to the captive and says, "What is your name?"
[Not sure if they speak human common or not, so we'll see if this one replies...] |

Lars is entirely confused by Kexy's behavior. But, nonetheless cowed, he backs up and bows his head. |

Giving a token effort Bhartec will smile and speak to the man, not really expecting him to answer in a common language "Why is it that you guard this area, what is it you seek to protect?"
In the likelihood he does not understand he will give the man some parchment and a writing tool, have him scribble his rantings, and read them through Read Languages. |

The bound man simply glares at your greetings and inquiries, makes as if to gesticulate, and tips over onto his side.
At Bhartec's proffer of pen and parchment, the fellow wags his head, wiggles his fingers, and babbles in his heathen tongue in what you eventually surmise is an affirmation of desire for his hands to be unbound. _________________ The penalty for success is to be bored by the people who used to snub you. |

Ymmas gives him one more thorough patting-down, for small sharp pieces of metal that may have escaped the group previously.
Once that has been done, he will saw at the man's bonds with a knife. |

Freed from the waist up, the captive opens and closes his hands for a few moments, rubbing at his wrists. After this brief attention to carpal circulation, he takes the proffered writing implements and sets pen to paper.
Looking up occasionally, he writes for a while in an angular script and spidery hand, then sets to drawing. His work complete, he shoves the paper and quill forward. Upon the parchment are some lines of the unfamiliar script, a quasi-Nivatopredic symbol, and a passably good sketch of a human skull with bulging eyeballs. He points at Sinlocah and hisses, then lays back, folds his arms across his chest, and closes his eyes. _________________ The penalty for success is to be bored by the people who used to snub you. |

"Well, I suppose conversion is out of the question..."
[Do Sinlocah's religous teachings tell him anything about the writings or pictures?] |

The symbols appear to be variations on the (un?)holy symbol of Nivatopredi.
You don't know much about Nivatopredi except:
1. Nivatopredi is a many-armed Goddess also known as "The Faceless One."
2. The Temple on the hill is the only known bastion of her worship.
3. The Great Church hasn't much cottoned to her.
The script is utterly alien to you. The drawing of the skull could mean any number of things, but in your experience is not generally inscribed as a prelude to detente. _________________ The penalty for success is to be bored by the people who used to snub you. |

Kexy will ask, in Troll-speak, "Can you understand me now?"
If the man seems to not understand, she'll ask, in Goblinese, "Do you understand me now?" |

The man sits up when Kexy speaks in Bhlat, looking at her with an expression of unmistakable shock and disgust. He gestures aggressively and spits out a stream of invective that, though not Bhlattish, leaves no doubt that he is powerfully vexed by her utterances. _________________ The penalty for success is to be bored by the people who used to snub you. |

Bhartec looks on inquisitively at the banter, not understanding either end. The foreign words and dialect clearly exciting him, as if anything can happen. He fingers his dagger and awaits for some issuance by Kexy. He imagines such as 'Finish him' or 'Slit his throat' or 'Lets begin the real fun now' or 'Grease him down and lets all undress'. |

"So, you understand the language of the gnolls, don't you?" Kexy asks icily in Bhlat.
"Reply in Bhlat or we will slay you where you stand." |

The man narrows his eyes and hisses. After a few moments, he speaks in broken Bhlat (your own is thickly accented, for your vocal cords, lips, and tongue are ill-suited for the formation of many Bhlattish words, but his speech is nigh incomprehensible).
"No am beast," he sneers. "No talk beast. You talk beast, no talk you. If kill?" He shrugs. "Kill." _________________ The penalty for success is to be bored by the people who used to snub you. |
