My highest-level character didn't have stats that bad, but he was definitely below average, rolled with 3d6 in order using B/X and eventually migrated to AD&D. He made it to Master Thief, almost entirely because of cowardice, dereliction of duty, and bastardy. |

Well, Mr. Stinkwalker has no con penalty and an XP bonus, so, who knows, he might go far. I'm not planning on having him charge the first hideous frog-mother we find so I can reroll or anything. |

Nah, I'd play that character in a heartbeat out of sheer bloody-mindedness.
(Note: he originally had an 8 Intelligence. If he'd actually had a 6 Intelligence to begin with, I'd think he had the worst stat array I'd ever seen. As it is, he only had one stat above 8, and 4 below.) |

Here's a question. Is anyone wed to the idea of there being Dwarves, Elves, and Halflings in the setting?
If you want them around, I'm fine with it, but if no one's that into them, I'll jettison them. I've been leaning to "humans only" characters for some time, but I understand some folks really like to have non-human characters as options, so let me know. |

Well, I see that political correctness isn't going to be one of our goals in this game . Fortunately, he couldn't afford a crossbow.
Oh, Scott, I don't give a shit about demihumans or whatever. |

I don't plan on playing a non-human but I like the fantasy elements demi-humans bring to the game. |

I'll leave the non-humans open as character options, but I'm unlikely to place any "Dwarf-land" or "Elf-land" or, God forbid, "Halfling-land" on the initial map, and PCs might be the only "demi-humans" encountered over the course of the campaign.
I personally like the idea that the world, for the most part, can be categorized as a) humans, and b) things inimical to humans, including other humans.
Now, the next things. At least initially, I'd like to keep a metagame "gentlemen's agreement" to stay on the initial wilderness map. I have plans to develop the realms beyond eventually, but I'd like to keep a local focus to begin with.
The campaign will begin in a small backwater village. I'll provide more information before play starts. I would suggest -- even appreciate -- having your first characters hail from this village. There will be a church for clerical characters. Your initial knowledge of the setting will concern matters known locally, and you'll all know each other. |

Sure thing. Here's my background. "LARS HATES STUPID VILLAGE, THEY WANT LARS TO WORK FOR MONEY. LARS BEAT UP MONSTERS AND TAKE MONEY INSTEAD. STUPID VILLAGERS CAN WORK AND LARS WILL LAUGH." |

Uhh, I'm too broke.
I've got a sack, though. You think we're going to find so much stuff we can't just haul it away in sacks? |

And hope said mule doesn't get eaten by a random monster while we are in the dungeon |

Scott: we're using the rule where a two-handed weapon gets to take the higher of two damage dice, right? How much more would be a two-handed flail? |

Just call it 12 gp total. A flail costs 20% less than a sword, so we'll say a two-handed flail costs 20% less than a two-handed sword. |

That was my internal monologue entering law school. |
