Bhartec will stare in horror as the boy meets his doom. Careful to remember every detail, his eyes do not leave the scene for a moment, so that he may better chronicle it later. More importantly he will examine the trap so that they may better avoid them next time. [We need more orphans, ala OD&D Thief class]

After a few moments, "Alas, he is not going anywhere. We can return the body to a proper burning on the way out." Bhartec says while cleaning out his meager possessions.

[There are a couple of holes in the wall, side by side, about chest-to-neck height, depending on how tall the target is. From each hole protrudes a rusty iron stake. There's a trigger plate on the floor, easily avoided if one knows where to look. You're not sure how the trap is reset.]

"So eh... do we get a cow or something and push him threw these hallways? I mean eventually the village will run out of orphans." Bhartec will follow anyone foolhardy enough to lead.

[I'm waiting for everyone to have a chance to post, as I suspect not everyone realizes that e-mail notifications are not working.]

"No. We just proceed more slowly. Lars and I will take the front as before."

[Re: lamp oil, noted. If and when we get a flying carpet, we'll have to find an alternate means of cooking enemy villages alive.]

[Lars is going to keep a close eye out for any other protuberant features, and not step on them.]

[Lars does. Damn shame is charisma's so low, it's really a waste.]

[Giving Nick a chance to check in. If he hasn't by this evening, I'll update.]

Proceeding somewhat more slowly, with the caution that only a skewered orphan can engender, you follow the passage to the north, and around a corner to the east. Ahead, as the passage goes east, you see wooden double doors on the south wall. They are slightly ajar. Beyond them, the passage turns north again.

Lars is going to creep up as silently as he can, and stand against the wall to listen for a few moments before looking through the aperture.

Lars listens intently for a moment, then peers through the crack in the doors. Staring back at him from the darkness is a bulging red eye ...

The doors heave open. Four gnolls stand in the chamber beyond, grinning. They are large, exceptionally nasty looking specimens, each holding a massive battle axe or spiked club.

"Kartarg grakin," says the largest.

A trio of smaller gnolls steps from a small portal further north in the passage, bows drawn and nocked.

"THRAK!" bellows the alpha gnoll. The bowstrings thrum. Three shafts hiss towards Lars -- two clatter off his armor, bruising but not piercing, and one flies wild and takes the alpha gnoll through his great ear. Baring his teeth, he surges forward with his filthy brethren, hissing.

[Kexy, understanding Bhlat, hears the gnoll say "hello, children" followed by "NOW!"

There are four gnolls in the room beyond the double doors to the south, and they *all* look like dead hard bastards. There are three gnolls in the passage to the north, all armed with bows. You have the initiative.]

"TELL VALCIDIES I DIED GOOD!" Lars screams and goes into what he expects will be his death-rage, bringing both axes around in whistling half-moon arcs at the lead Gnoll's neck.

[Shit.]

"Someone engage the Gnoll bowmen while I send the warriors to sleep!" Kexy yells as she drops her bow and chants the invocation of slumber.

[Sleep spell, centered inside the southern chamber, to catch the 4 big Gnolls, and hopefully none of us.]
