"Excuse me...uh, Brothers...um...we're in the lair of monsters and subhuman cretins....do you think it wise to have choir practice right now?" Kexy postulates politely while looking warily around with her bow at the ready.

"Let them come, the wretches!! They shall meet their doom at the hands of the servants of the The One True God!!"

"By daylight we ride
Ten thousands side by side
With swords drawn held high
Our sheilds and armours shine
Hail to thee our infantry
Still brave beyond the grave
All have sworn the eternal vow
The time to strike is now"

Setting to the destruction with righteous vigor, and with blades recovered from the dead, you topple the black altar, sending it crashing into the abyss. The oppressive darkness of the caverns seems to ease a bit as the roof echoes with your song, and no enemy response seems to be forthcoming.

"If you gentlemen are finished breaking things, perhaps we should check out the room beyond the doors?"

Lars kicks another stray piece of rubble hard, sending it in a disappearing arc out into the black gulfs beyond the floor. "Okay, Kexy."

"Frickus, if you'd be so kind as to throw the doors open, and then step out of my way," Ymmas says, his crossbow readied. "And Kexy's."

[By the way, nice touch Smile]

The room beyond the double doors is about 30' square ... you stand in the eastern doorway, facing another set of open doors on the west wall. It is through these latter that the screaming mutant presumably came.

There is a chest on the floor in the center of each of the north and south walls. The room seems to be unoccupied.

Sinlocah will enter the room cautiously, altenately probing the floor with his foot and looking all about for nasties. If nothing immediatley strikes him (literally or figuratively) he will move to the western set of doors and take a minute to listen for noises on the other side.

Lars eyes the chests suspiciously, then stands back and hurls a couple javelins at them, butt-first, to see if it springs any mechanisms.

Kexy will slink in after Sinlocah and begin scanning the perimeter of the room to see what's on the walls.

The javelins ricochet off the chests with no apparent effect. You do not see locks on the chests, or adornments upon the walls. There is now a bit of a stink wafting from the other set of double doors.

Bhartec will open the chest, sifting through the contents with wanton curiosity.

[Which, north or south?]

Bhartec opens the north chest. Within are a jeweled mace, an iron box, a leather bag, a skull-shaped goblet set with rune chips, and a platinum box carved with runes.

Within a few seconds after opening the chest, Bhartec feels extremely weak, barely able to support himself and his gear ... his face has become drawn, and the usual demonic gleam in his eyes has receded to a mere furtively perverted glimmer.
